What Ability’s goal is to recruit as many young professional athletes as possible to work in the disability sector and dissolve stigma around how they are perceived when spending their time away from the pitch.
Founder and CEO of What Ability Steve Dresler has been working in this field for many years, witnessing first-hand the benefits in providing athletes as carers. Motivated by his extensive network of fellow professional athletes and many requests from clients, he created the What Ability platform to create and connect a community, with a vision to grow nationally.
Having faced early retirement through injury, What Ability is the evolution of Steve’s innate desire to create positive impact and build a community of his peers, professional athletes who are committed to connecting with children and adults with disabilities. To share time, experiences and connect meaningfully to enhance the clients’ perception of what is possible, that nothing can hold you back and together, we can do anything.
What Ability’s goal is to recruit every male and female professional athlete in Australia onto the platform as support workers. NRL, Super rugby, AFL,
A-league, Super netball, cricket, track, swimming and more.
James’ size, strength and challenging behaviours made it impossible to find staff capable of managing and keeping him safe so zero community access for James. The enthusiasm, fitness, experience and empathy of the What Ability staff means that James is now able to enjoy bushwalking, swimming and kicking around a footy. Thanks to What Ability, James’ world is open and continuing to expand.
The team at WhatAbility provide support along with something money can’t buy and that’s friendship. Being treated as a mate gives Clancy confidence and makes him feel included. As a mum, that’s priceless!
What Ability has had an amazing impact on socialising Paige. She is loved, looked after and cared for by their amazing staff. Her access to the community has been phenomenal with her having regular outings to places that we have been unable to access in the past. Thank you What Ability!
What Ability are amazing! My son Adem looks forward to outings with all the staff involved. They are always professional in their conduct and truly understand Autism and the way it presents in all individuals so differently. They’re great at adapting their program to suit each individuals needs. My son has gained so much confidence socially since receiving services with What Ability.
