NDISRegistered provider
From 1 July 2026, every SIL provider must be registered with the NDIS (or have applied) by 1 October 2026, a change designed to lift quality and safety for everyone. The short version: What Ability is already a registered NDIS provider, so if you’re with us, there’s nothing you need to do.
You’re covered. We’re a registered NDIS provider and we meet the new SIL requirements. There’s no change to your support because of the new SIL requirements, and we’ll continue supporting you before and after the deadline.
You have every right to ask them. If your SIL provider has decided not to register, you’ll need to move to one who has, and we’re ready to help. We’ll walk you through your options, make the transition as simple as possible, and keep your supports consistent throughout the process. Changing providers doesn’t affect your current NDIS plan or funding, and we’ll continue supporting you before, during, and after the transition.
No pressure, no commitment, just a conversation.
Choosing Supported Independent Living comes with big questions. Will it feel like home? Will the people be the right fit? Will I still have choice and control?
At What Ability, we do more than find you a house. We help you build a home by carefully matching you with compatible housemates and supporting you every step of the way.
We’ve helped many participants and families through this journey, and we’ve learnt that the biggest difference isn’t a perfect transition, it’s having the right people beside you.
That’s the What Ability difference. Because the right support doesn’t just help you live independently, it helps you build a life worth living.
Supported Independent Living is an NDIS support that helps with daily tasks in a shared home, delivered in your home and tailored to each person living there.
SIL can include support with routines, personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication, overnight supervision and developing independent living skills.
What SIL typically includes:
At What Ability, SIL is about more than just a house. It is about creating a stable, supportive home where participants can grow, build routines and feel confident in their everyday life.
Through our SIL supports, participants can experience:
The right support at the right time, built around your goals, your home, your routines.
Planning, shopping, and cooking nutritious meals.
Bathing, grooming, and daily hygiene with dignity.
Medication prompts and health management support.
Cleaning, laundry, and household maintenance.
Getting out, running errands, social activities.
Overnight and sleepover support where it’s part of your plan.
Independence goals worked on every session.
Progress notes, reviews, and plan alignment.
Most providers can list the same services. The difference is how it actually feels to live with their support, day after day.
SIL is for people who want to live in a shared home with reliable support around them, whether that means help with daily routines, overnight care, building new skills, or simply having a consistent, trusted team in your corner.
Good to know
To access SIL, you’ll need SIL funding included in your NDIS plan. If you’re not sure whether you have it or how to get it, we can walk you through what to ask your NDIS planner or support coordinator.
You may be a good fit for What Ability’s SIL if:
Not sure if you qualify? We’ll help you work that out, no obligation, no pressure.
Finding the right home and support matters. Our matching process focuses on fit, not filling vacancies. We prioritise compatibility, communication and long-term stability.
During your enquiry, we take time to understand:
Enquire online or book a call to see if SIL is right for you.
We learn about your goals, funding and needs, then plan next steps.
We meet to understand your routines and supports, and define what great SIL looks like for you.
We create a clear, agreed plan for your home and support team. Nothing moves forward without your approval.
You move in with your team ready from day one. We check in regularly and adjust early if needed.
We review your supports over time to keep them safe, consistent and aligned with your goals.
If you’re exploring Supported Independent Living for the first time, the best place to start is our enquiry form below.
If you’re an existing What Ability participant or family, please book in a call directly here with our SIL Squad to chat through options, availability and timing.
SIL stands for Supported Independent Living, an NDIS-funded support that helps people live in a shared home with day-to-day assistance suited to their needs. It can include help with routines, personal care, meal prep, medication and building independence skills, with support levels tailored to each participant.
SIL is the support, the people and services that help you with daily life. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is the physical home itself. You can have SIL funding without SDA, and vice versa. We can help you understand which applies to your situation.
Yes, compatibility matters to us. We work carefully to match people who are likely to get on well, and we involve you in that process. No surprises on move-in day.
We build consistent teams and aim to keep them as stable as possible. While occasional changes happen (leave, staff turnover), consistency is a priority, not an afterthought.
Absolutely. Family involvement is encouraged at every stage, from planning to regular check-ins. Your support network is part of your world, and we treat it that way.
Your support plan evolves with you. We review regularly and adjust, whether your goals change, your health changes, or you simply want to try something different.
Support levels vary by individual plan. Some people need overnight or active support; others don’t. We design your support around what you actually need, not a one-size package.
